Giving an account of every word....
I write a fairly open and honest blog. Occasionally, I pen something on a dear friend or a ‘lost’ loved one….I have received a few criticisms when I first started as well as some cautions (to be careful what I say and how I say it). For the most part, I have heeded that advice—to the point that I edited a piece I wrote lest I offend the person it spoke about. The piece was an expression of personal disappointment and there was no ‘intended’ criticism of my brother in Christ. But modify it I did because even though this person and I are estranged and I am 99% sure they have never read my blog, I love them enough never to want to hurt them.
I believe in freedom of speech and I believe that blogs can be a way of expression and healing. However, I am surprised at the commentary and the overt openness in some blogs. It is beyond insensitivity. Is it really necessary to defend/express/explore oneself and at the same time soundly smack others who may have offended you, both innocently or intentionally?
I am just sorry that others do not wish to show restraint in their work. It is a matter of prayer. The web and our ramblings can be hurtful and potentially dangerous. I pray for sensitivity, wisdom and restraint from those in the Faith.
